Road Formation & Subgrade Preparation

Built for the Load. Built for the Long Term.

Next Stage Civil has been constructing civil roads across regional NSW for over 20 years from council-specification sealed roads and stormwater infrastructure through to rural driveways, station tracks, and fire trails. We work for councils, developers, civil contractors, and rural property owners who need a road built to spec and built to last.

Poor access, drainage failures, and surfaces that deteriorate after the first wet season are what bring clients to us. With 3D GPS graders, integrated drainage capability, and in-house haulage, we deliver consistent finish quality and efficient turnaround — across rural and full civil spec projects — from Jervis Bay to the Central West and beyond.

Scope of Works

From initial clearing and subgrade formation through to final grading and drainage integration, here's what's covered.

Tick Icon

Route clearing & site preparation

Vegetation removal, topsoil strip and initial clearing to open up the corridor before formation begins.

Tick Icon

Subgrade formation & shaping

Cut and fill operations to form the road profile, shaped to design levels using GPS-guided machinery.

Tick Icon

Stormwater & drainage installation

Pits, pipes, box culverts, headwalls, and swale drains designed and installed as part of the road scope not treated as a separate contract.

Tick Icon

Kerb & gutter preparation

Excavation, formwork, and backfill for kerb and gutter, integrated into the road construction sequence.

Tick Icon

Drainage integration

Table drains, culverts, and drainage falls designed into the road from the start not added as an afterthought.

Tick Icon

Final trim & surface finish

Finished road surface ready for gravelling, sealing, or handover, depending on the project specification.

Our process

A proven process that keeps your project moving with no guesswork, delays, or surprises.

Scope review & site assessment

We review your drawings, visit the site where required, and provide a clear, detailed quote with no ambiguity on what's included.

Mobilisation & site setup

Plant, haulage, and personnel are coordinated in-house. We mobilise on schedule so there's no waiting on third parties to confirm availability.

GPS-controlled earthworks

All major excavation and grading is performed using 3D GPS, working directly to your design file. Levels are checked progressively throughout.

Final trim, clean & handover

We complete a final trim to design tolerances, remove all excess material, and hand over a clean, construction-ready site.

What sets us apart

Our work is built around control and consistency. By reducing variables and keeping responsibility under one team, we deliver sites that are ready to move forward not ones that need correcting.

GPS-equipped fleet

All major plant runs 3D GPS so we hit design levels accurately, first time, with fewer complications when the next trade comes on.

In-house haulage

We own and operate our haulage equipment. Material and machinery move on the project schedule, not a third party's.

Owner-operated oversight

Daniel runs every job. You deal directly with the person accountable for the outcome not a supervisor passing messages up a chain.

Frequently asked questions

Need more information before getting started?

Here are answers to the questions we’re most commonly asked. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, get in touch.

Do you include drainage as part of road construction?

Yes, always. Table drains, culverts, and drainage falls are designed into the road from the start not treated as an add-on. Getting drainage right is what makes the difference between a road that lasts and one that deteriorates after the first wet season.

Can you build to council or Transport for NSW specification?

Yes. We have experience delivering roads for Weddin and Forbes Councils, Jervis Bay fire trail works, and Transport for NSW and understand the specification and documentation requirements for government and council projects.

Do you handle both sealed and unsealed roads?

Yes. We form and prepare subgrade for sealed pavements as well as constructing and resheeting gravel rural roads. The formation and grading process is the same, what happens on top depends on the project spec.

Can you access remote or regional locations?

Yes. With our own heavy haulage capability we transport plant on our own schedule — remote and regional sites across NSW are part of our regular scope of work.

How quickly can you mobilise to site?

Because we manage our own plant and haulage in-house, we're not dependent on third-party transport availability. We'll give you a realistic mobilisation timeframe when we review your scope.
