Site preparation, drainage, and arena construction for private horse properties, equestrian centres, and rural estates across NSW built to perform all year round.

Equestrian Arenas

The Base Is Everything. We Get It Right.

A horse arena that doesn't drain correctly, sit level, or hold its surface is expensive to maintain and frustrating to use. Next Stage Civil builds equestrian arenas and horse facilities from the ground up handling all earthworks, drainage, subgrade preparation, and final trim so the base is right before any surface goes down.

With 20 years of civil and rural earthworks experience, we bring the same GPS-controlled precision and detail-focused approach to equestrian facilities as we do to civil infrastructure, delivering spaces that are safe, functional, and built to handle real conditions year-round.

Scope of Works

From site clearing and arena pad construction through to drainage, access tracks, and stable surrounds, here's what equestrian facility earthworks covers.

Tick Icon

Site clearing & preparation

Full clearing of vegetation and surface material, with initial site assessment for levels, drainage, and layout to suit the intended equestrian use.

Tick Icon

Arena pad construction

Bulk and detailed excavation, cut and fill, and pad formation to create a level, well-drained arena base shaped correctly before any surface material is placed.

Tick Icon

Subgrade & base preparation

Subgrade shaping, compaction, and final trim to engineered levels ensuring the base performs and the surface material drains and sits correctly.

Tick Icon

Drainage installation

Integrated drainage design and installation including perimeter drainage, culverts, and surface grading to direct water away from the arena and surrounding areas.

Tick Icon

Access, float & vehicle areas

Float and vehicle access creation, hardstand preparation, wash bay and stable surrounds, and paddock interface works to support a fully functional horse facility setup.

Tick Icon

Round yards & stable surrounds

Round yard preparation, stable surrounds, and general site improvements, all earthworks required to complete a practical, well-laid-out horse property.

Our process

A proven process that keeps your project moving with no guesswork, delays, or surprises.

Scope review & site assessment

We review your drawings, visit the site where required, and provide a clear, detailed quote with no ambiguity on what's included.

Mobilisation & site setup

Plant, haulage, and personnel are coordinated in-house. We mobilise on schedule so there's no waiting on third parties to confirm availability.

GPS-controlled earthworks

All major excavation and grading is performed using 3D GPS, working directly to your design file. Levels are checked progressively throughout.

Final trim, clean & handover

We complete a final trim to design tolerances, remove all excess material, and hand over a clean, construction-ready site.

What sets us apart

Our work is built around control and consistency. By reducing variables and keeping responsibility under one team, we deliver sites that are ready to move forward not ones that need correcting.

GPS-equipped fleet

All major plant runs 3D GPS so we hit design levels accurately, first time, with fewer complications when the next trade comes on.

In-house haulage

We own and operate our haulage equipment. Material and machinery move on the project schedule, not a third party's.

Owner-operated oversight

Daniel runs every job. You deal directly with the person accountable for the outcome not a supervisor passing messages up a chain.

Frequently asked questions

Need more information before getting started?

Here are answers to the questions we’re most commonly asked. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, get in touch.

Can you complete other works around the arena as well?

Yes — in addition to arena construction, we also handle associated works including access tracks, float and vehicle areas, round yards, wash bay surrounds, stable surrounds, paddock interface works, drainage, and general horse property site improvements. We can scope the whole facility, not just the arena pad.

Can you prepare and build the entire arena from scratch?

Yes — we handle the full earthworks process from initial site preparation through to the finished arena base. This includes clearing, excavation, cut and fill, levelling, compaction, subgrade preparation, drainage installation, and final trim — so the arena is ready for surfacing and use.

Can you fix or upgrade an existing arena that's not working properly?

Yes — we can assess existing arenas and carry out regrading, drainage improvements, reshaping, and base corrections to improve usability, safety, and performance. Poor drainage and uneven ground are the most common issues we're called in to resolve.

Do you supply the arena surface material as well?

Our scope covers all earthworks and base preparation — the civil work that determines whether an arena performs or fails. Surface material supply and installation is typically handled by a specialist supplier. We'll make sure the base is right so the surface performs the way it should.

What size properties do you work on for equestrian facilities?

From private horse properties and hobby farms through to equestrian centres, stud farms, agistment properties, and rural estates. If you're building or upgrading a horse facility and need the earthworks done properly, get in touch and we'll talk through the scope.
